Vlisco’s Got That Super Wax

Stop and stare.  I know it’s not polite, but Vlisco’s Super-Wax fabrics and designs make it more than okay to do so.  I actually have a confession to make:  there was a time when I was not so big on African print anything.  Truth.  I even grew up in the AME Church where the older ladies loved to drape their lappas and kente cloth across their bodies as their Sunday best.  The men, too.  It wasn’t until I went to Africa and a group of women dressed me in their cloths and tied a head wrap on me that I realized how truly beautiful wax prints and pattern and color is.  I think it had more to do with how happy they were to share it with me than anything else that opened my eyes.  Africa has a way of changing one’s mind for the better, I must say.  It also took that same trip for me to appreciate avocados, or “butter pears” as they call them, but that’s a whole other story.  It’s pretty amazing to see how brands and fashion houses have embraced the culture and its designs.  Beautiful.

  1. I LOVE these prints! I grew up in the AME Church, too. I haven’t had a chance to visit the Motherland, but it’s on my to-do list!

  2. Be still my heart. I think I pinned all of the fashion looks. I wish I could afford some of these fabrics but I can still appreciate the beauty. Thanks for sharing.

  3. I wasn’t big on these prints either and surely didn’t like seeing them on the ladies at church, but these designs surely make you take a second look
