Esperanza Spalding, with this editorial, is officially on my style radar. Truth be told I’ve always taken a few fashion notes from her considering the fact that she just does natural, down to earth, with a serious dollop of glam so amazingly well. So yup, this editorial has confirmed it. She’s it, friends! The hair, pastels, skin, her aura… The lady’s got style. For reals. Oh, how about the styling. I’d like to think it’s all mostly Miss Spalding’s doing, but whoever called in the spectacular elephant necklace deserves major style points. Kudos, Esperanza. Kudos.

Pattern Piqued

Do you think there will ever come a day when we’ve just had enough of pattern on pattern? This is a thought I’ve been having more and more lately as I’ve been hitting shops and magazines for décor and style inspiration and continually stumble upon stripes and wax prints and geometrics and plaids. Yes, I do partake (peep this recent find) but it’s a conscious effort to remind myself that pattern, and pattern mixing in particular, are visuals that may be best if consumed in moderation. It’s like chocolate. Chocolate is one of my BFFs, but I have put distance between us because while my taste buds rejoice in it, my booty not so much. What say you? Keep the pattern coming or let’s fall back a bit and add in more solids and neutrals. To each her own. In the meantime, peruse Gwen Stefani’s (love her!) latest editorial in Elle UK.
